After John Lundstram’s outstanding performance against Hibernian, Alan Hutton maintains that Rangers should automatically give him a new contract.
Although Lundstram hasn’t been among the Gers’ top players this year, his contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
The midfielder helped Fabio Silva score the other goal in Rangers’ 2-0 Viaplay Cup victory over Hibernian.
Commentator Marvin Bartley said during the game’s live stream on Viaplay on March 10 at 7:47 p.m.: “Observe the joyous occasion there.”
“In the summer, his contract expires. He appears to be making it clear that he wants to remain with this football team.
BBC Sport analyst Hutton said, “For me right now, yes, absolutely,” in response to the question of whether tying Lundstram down is now a “priority.”
“Since taking over, the new manager has demonstrated his abilities to all.”
“He’s definitely one of the first names on the teamsheet and has really elevated his game; he shows it every week, so yeah.”
John Lundstram yet to sign new Rangers contract
Given how well Lundstram has played for the Rangers this season, it is surprising that he hasn’t already signed a new contract.
The extra few million the Gers will need to spend on a replacement should the former Sheffield United star depart in the summer.
Lundstram is still an incredibly vital player, as demonstrated by his performance against Hibernian, where he was unquestionably the greatest player on the field.
With just over three months of the season remaining, a deal that has been discussed should have been signed by now.
Hopefully, Lundstram’s previous statements about his desire to stay have not changed in recent weeks.
Important players like Lundstram need to sign new contracts before the Gers can consider bolstering their roster in the summer.
