Wyness believes Leeds United’s case against Everton is unlikely to succeed.
Former Everton manager Keith Wyness believes Leeds United’s lawsuit against Everton will fail because the evidence is insufficient.
On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old former CEO of Goodison Park, who now operates a football consultancy advising elite teams, expressed concern that the case may create a poor precedent.
The Yorkshire club, together with Burnley and Leicester City, warned Everton that they aim to sue for £300 million (£100 million apiece) if the Merseyside team is found guilty of breaking financial regulations.
After their initial hearing, the Toffees were found guilty and docked ten points, which were later reduced to six after a successful appeal last week.
Wyness believes the trio of clubs will find it difficult to demonstrate that Everton’s financial violations influenced their relegation.
“I’d really ask those three clubs to reconsider because they’ve got to show a direct causation to the damages that Everton have caused them,” Wyness was quoted as saying by Football Insider.
“Can Leeds claim that not having a fantastic defensive four, a good midfield performance, or missing a few opportunities was not the reason they dropped points in specific games?
“So it’s difficult to establish the precise cause and damage Everton has done to them.
