If West Ham United wants to make any improvements to the London Stadium, they should study what Arsenal has done with the Emirates.
I am aware that West Ham hosts a lot of Sunday kickoffs at 2 p.m., but the atmosphere at the London Stadium is very awful, in contrast to the Emirates where the Arsenal supporters are bouncing off the walls right now.
Yes, there have been moments when the London Stadium has had a great vibe. My thoughts go back to our 2016 League Cup victory over Chelsea, our home victories against Tottenham during the previous six or seven years, and of course our 2022 Europa League victory over Sevilla.
It would be imprudent of me, though, to imply that the games I just listed were not among the vast majority.
And sure, I am well aware that the Gunners’ current success and superior football performance over us contribute significantly to the disparate environments within the two stadiums.
Still, there’s undoubtedly more we can do. To alter things, the supporters and the club must work together.
And as it stings to say that in light of Upton Park’s glory days, Arsenal is the team we should be looking up to for motivation.
West Ham must imitate Arsenal in this significant off-field London Stadium shift.
Under Mikel Arteta’s direction, Arsenal has transformed the atmosphere at the Emirates over the previous few years.
Two-for-one deals on pre-match beers purchased within 60 minutes of the stadium opening are a typical trick of theirs.
The Ashburton Army, a purported organisation of “Ultras,” has its own area under the Gunners in the Clock End at the Emirates. It may make you giggle, but it’s effective. Throughout the entire game, about 200 people sing nonstop, inspiring others to follow suit.
We could also implement a significant change that Arsenal has already implemented: placing giant flags all over the pitch. Take a peek at Bundesliga games; for some unknown reason, it really helps with the mood!
The London Stadium will never feel like home, in my opinion. It is not a football stadium intended for use, in contrast to the Emirates.
We may, however, make the most of what we have. We have a plethora of options for improving the situation on our own property. Owners must collaborate extensively with advocacy organisations to assist put any necessary changes into effect.
In the end, we’ve demonstrated over the previous few years that we are able to create noise within London Stadium; we simply need greater motivation to do so.
The owners of Arsenal are always open to talking with the supporters about ways to improve the stadium for all those associated with the team, as The Sun has brought to light.
A word of caution to all of that: when we have a team that doesn’t really play front-foot football and is passive against the opposition, it is nearly impossible to create a positive environment inside the stadium. But that’s a discussion for another day. For now, if West Ham wants to make improvements within the London Stadium, we should consider what Arsenal has accomplished at the Emirates.
