PFA Scotland CEO shares opinion on how Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers handled John Beaton situation.
The harshest criticism of the officials I have yet heard from the Hoops coach came from Brendan Rodgers following Celtics’ loss to Hearts.
Without a doubt, Rodgers believed that VAR official John Beaton was the cause of Celtic’s defeat at Tynecastle and the opportunity to take the lead in the Scottish Premiership.
The national association has charged the Celtic manager for remarks he made regarding Beaton, and he now has a date with destiny with the SFA.
And now that Fraser Wishart, the Chief Executive of the PFA, has heard what the Celtics manager said regarding the SFA official, he has made a statement on Rodgers.
Brendan Rodgers ‘knew’ what he was doing with Beaton comments
After the ceremony, Fraser Wishart spoke and shared his fairly audacious thoughts about Rodgers’ remarks in the wake of the Celtic VAR controversy.
Wishart stated [on Superscoreboard], “I’ve been up here representing players at the judicial panel process much too frequently. The guidelines are really clear.
“You cannot claim that a referee is inept. You’re in a little trouble if you start questioning his abilities either before or after the game.
Brendan’s suspension is not a guarantee, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Celtic’s attorneys will be present to present his case.
He had good reason to be upset. As did Hearts in response to Celtic’s penalty. Referees had an unsatisfactory day overall.
From Brendan’s perspective, “I believe that he knew exactly what he was doing and saying. Maybe he didn’t realize he could miss the Old Firm game, but I believe that he knew exactly what he was doing and he took this opportunity to really highlight what he sees as an injustice for his club.”
At least the glaring disparities between VAR and the way the rules are implemented in Scotland have been exposed, regardless of the outcome of Rodgers’ hearing.
All too frequently, Celtic has been punished for handballs that the players were obviously powerless to stop.Alexandro Bernabei was given a red card for a handball that occurred behind his back at Celtic Park against Dundee United during the previous season. Matt O’Riley came before Tomoki Iwata.
However, other players from different teams don’t seem to get in trouble for handballs. It is utterly strange.
But let’s watch Rodgers’ reaction to the SFA. Before the forthcoming Ibrox Glasgow Derby, hopefully, they will realize the error of their ways and clear the Celtic boss.
