Everton transfer news: Barcelona bids more than £50 million for Amadou Onana.
Everton rejected a £34 million proposal from Barcelona for Amadou Onana, resulting in a £51.1 million asking price, according to Sport Bild.
On March 11, the German news agency stated that Barcelona had pursued Onana to fill the void left by Sergio Busquets’ departure for Inter Miami.
Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the midfielder’s status after being linked during the January transfer window.
Given Everton’s financial condition, it appears that the club may be forced to sell several of its key players this summer. Onana, considering his reputation and price, may be one of those guys.
It may be wise for Everton to try to push up the price by leveraging interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in order to spark a bidding war with Barcelona and capitalize on the possibility to benefit from Onana.
To maximize their profit, Everton would need to significantly boost the price of Onana, who came at the club for £36 million, rather than the first bid, which was lower.
With Barcelona allegedly opening talks with Everton, it remains to be seen whether they will return with a bid closer to his valuation, but Arsenal and Chelsea will be on the lookout.
