Everton: Sean Dyche lifts lid on Gareth Southgate talks in Jarrad Branthwaite England admission

Everton manager Sean Dyche discusses Gareth Southgate and Jarrad Branthwaite’s England admittance.

Everton manager Sean Dyche has opened up about his meetings with England boss Gareth Southgate, saying that Jarrad Branthwaite is on the verge of being called up to the senior squad.

The Toffees centre-back has been one of Dyche’s better performers throughout a challenging season at Goodison Park, excelling on his Premier League debut and forming a solid defensive partnership with James Tarkowski.

While Dyche agreed that Southgate was responsible for selecting the March international team, he did urge that both of his centre-backs be considered ahead of the European Championships.

According to the Liverpool Echo (11 March), he occasionally consults with Gareth when he calls for advice. Aside than that, I’ve never chosen his squad for him. I would expect Jarrad would be thinking about it, but I would not choose his squad for him.

“But I imagine from his performance. I believed he was OK again. Tarky, I believe, has also performed admirably; together, they have been really effective.

“I would imagine that he’s somewhere at least in Gareth’s thinking about the squad but as I’ve said, I’ve never ever got involved in who he should or shouldn’t pick, it’s his responsibility, not mine.”

Will Gareth Southgate call up Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite for England’s Euro 2024 squad?

Every Everton fan would agree that Branthwaite is more than deserving of a spot in Southgate’s England team in March after his superb performances at the heart of the Toffees’ defence.

England’s defensive options are limited at the moment, and few English defenders have played as frequently at the highest level as the 21-year-old this season, so he should receive his first call-up.

The Toffees’ main concern is that the Englishman’s long-term future at Goodison Park is already under scrutiny, with many major clubs reportedly interested in making significant bids.

Hopefully, an England call-up will help Everton increase their asking price for the defender before the conclusion of the season.Even if they are demoted, they will not be able to lose him cheaply, but their interest remains strong.
