David Moyes says most infuriating ref blunder of West Ham’s draw went completely unnoticed

Forget the disallowed goal and Sander Berge’s handball; the ref’s biggest error in West Ham’s stalemate with Burnley went unreported.

That is according to enraged West Ham manager David Moyes, following the 2-2 draw with the Premier League strugglers.

West Ham and Moyes only have themselves to blame for dropping two big points at the London Stadium.

The way the Hammers played to find themselves 2-0 down at half-time – against one of the worst teams in Prem history – was unacceptable.

Lightning strikes twice for Hammers

But West Ham demonstrated resilience and grit by fighting back after the break. And the officials surely did not help.

The Clarets were denied a last-minute penalty for handball in the Europa League on midweek, and the same thing happened against them.

And this happened after goal hero Danny Ings had another shot ruled down for the season’s narrowest offside decision on Michail Antonio.

But forget the disallowed goal and Berge’s handball.

Moyes says Bowen decision is worst of the lot

Because, according to Moyes, the most aggravating refereeing error in West Ham’s stalemate with Burnley went unreported.

The Hammers manager revealed the decision that enraged him the most was the assistant referee’s incorrect offside call on Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen was passed through on goal, but play was delayed when the assistant referee raised the flag.

This is despite the fact that the assistants were told to let play continue so that VAR could check.

“The decisions today went so badly against us,” Moyes said post match.

‘He puts his flag up, I’ve seen it and he’s onside’

“The offside for the goal, then there is one in the first half where the linesman puts his flag up and Jarrod Bowen is onside.

“Even if he wasn’t, the rules are supposed to be that you wait until he’s got to be sure he’s offside. He doesn’t. He puts his flag up straight away and I’ve seen it and he’s onside.

“So you’ve got Sander Berge heads the ball or attempts to head the ball in front of him, and it strikes his arms. There were several rulings today that went against us.

“The narrow margins didn’t work for us today. It’s not an excuse for how we started or played in the first half, but I can’t condemn the players for what they did in the second half; in fact, I’d praise them.
