Sunderland next manager favourite admits Newcastle boss Eddie Howe ‘inspires’ him

Sunderland’s future manager acknowledges that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe ‘inspires’ him.

Eddie Howe has had a successful time with Sunderland’s arch rivals Newcastle United, leading the Magpies to Champions League qualifying and the Carabao Cup final.

Will Still, Sunderland’s manager, has credited Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe for inspiring him throughout his career.

Sunderland has been without a permanent manager since Michael Beale’s sacking last month, following only 12 matches. Still is one contender who has been projected to replace him at the Stadium of Light.

The 31-year-old Stade Reims coach made headlines in the United Kingdom last year after managing a successful season in Ligue 1. His club sits ninth in the French top division ahead of their trip to PSG on Sunday.

While most supporters would welcome his appointment, they may be less interested in learning about his sources of inspiration. In an interview with AS, Still stated, “I was inspired by everyone.”

“You have to try to capture as much information as possible to be able to apply it and not stick to just one style.” So far, Howe’s time at St James’ Park has gone well.

While next year’s Champions League appears out of reach, Newcastle remains in contention for the FA Cup, where they will meet Manchester City in the quarterfinals next weekend. Sunderland now ranks 12th in the Championship after losing 4-2 to Southampton on Saturday.

“There is no coach better than another. I think there are different ideas throughout the world of football that we can learn from. [Carlo] Ancelotti too, who has done absolutely crazy things. But we also have Eddie Howe, in Newcastle, who does things very well.
