Sunderland’s players will keep together, according to Romaine Mundle, after losing their sixth Championship game in row.

Southampton defeated the Black Cats 4-2 at St Mary’s Stadium, after recovering from a two-goal deficit. Mundle scored a long-range goal for Sunderland, followed by Jobe Bellingham’s brilliant equalizer nine minutes later.

Southampton’s promotion prospects were boosted as substitute Joe Rothwell scored twice in short succession.

“I think it’s a bittersweet moment, but it’s more about the team than myself,” Mundle remarked when questioned about his goal and the outcome. “I believed we should have gotten more out of the second half. We played brilliantly in the second half but fell short with the final two goals.
