Nuno must unleash “unstoppable” Nottingham Forest talent instead of Yates

Under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, Nottingham Forest has had ups and downs, and the Reds are currently in the thick of a relegation fight.

After replacing Steve Cooper as manager of Wolves on December 20, of last year, Nuno had an immediate effect, winning two of his first three Premier League games, including matches against Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Those two victories were undoubtedly the peak of his time in charge so far, with the Reds’ form dropping as they entered 2024.

Forest have only won one league game so far this calendar year, which came in the 2-0 home win against West Ham United back in February, with the Reds suffering back-to-back defeats since.

Nuno will be wanting a response to the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend as they travel to face Brighton this afternoon, with the Reds head coach needing to unleash one member of the Forest squad.

Why Ryan Yates should be dropped to face Brighton

Ryan Yates, a 26-year-old midfielder who came through the Forest youth, has been a reliable member of the Reds’ team this season.

During the match against Jürgen Klopp’s team last weekend, he assumed the armband and provided the midfield a much-needed physical presence. But because of his awkward style of play, Yates committed four fouls throughout the course of the ninety minutes. His persistent demeanor frequently caused him to cross the line.

Yates failed to win a single tackle against Liverpool and was poor in possession, completing just 20 passes at a success rate of only 69%.

He’s a solid player to have in games against sides who like to control possession, but with the return of one Forest player, he should make way and take his place on the substitutes’ bench.

Ibrahim Sangare, a midfielder for Forest, moved to the Reds from PSV for £35 million last summer. Sangare had a fantastic start to his stay at the City Ground, but when he joined his country for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, his progress was interrupted.

Nuno’s final match for his team was an away win over Newcastle on Boxing Day. Following the Elephants’ victory last month, the 26-year-old was allowed a longer break. Since his return, he hasn’t been in any games, but his ability to win balls could be the difference in what could yet

Even though he has had an uneventful start to his Reds career, Sangare has shown flashes of his skills while not in possession. His 3.5 tackles per 90 plays this season place him in the top 4% of midfielders in Europe. Sangare is also a fantastic rebounder.

The former Toulouse player, who the Dutch journalist Roger Schmidt dubbed the “unstoppable” midfielder, cost the Reds a lot of money in the summer. The Forest supporters haven’t seen the best of him yet, so the trip to Brighton is a fantastic chance for him to launch his career on Trentside.
