NFL rumors: Cowboys make Michael Gallup trade decision

After a few years of disappointing seasons, Dallas is allowing Gallup to search for greener pastures.

The goal of the Dallas Cowboys is to retool. The squad is eager to make some changes and mix things up following yet another disappointing departure. To make room, they are prepared to let rid of some items. They’re willing to let go of wide receiver Michael Gallup as one of these parts.

The Cowboys are letting Michael Gallup pursue a trade after a few seasons with the team, according to Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News. The issue is that, most likely, nobody wants to trade for Gallup since they think the wide receiver will be released.

According to a source, the Cowboys have authorized wide receiver Michael Gallup to pursue a trade. The difficult situation stems from teams anticipating Gallup’s release. @dmn_cowboys

Gallup is in the third year of a $57.5 million five-year contract. Many had thought that Gallup, behind CeeDee Lamb, would take over as the Cowboys’ WR2 when Amari Cooper left. Gallup was unable to make the same successful adjustment to WR1 that Lamb did. For the past two seasons, he has failed to gain more than 500 yards.

It’s unlikely that Dallas will find a proper trade for Gallup that will give them compensation. Teams know that the Cowboys are more likely to release him, after all. Still, it’s definitely worth looking to see if any team is interested in a trade.

The Cowboys are looking to find new weapons for Dak Prescott to pair with CeeDee Lamb. Between the decline of Tony Pollard and the lack of a true WR2, there’s room for growth. We’ll see if the team can find that replacement properly.
