Neil Lennon identifies one wrong Hibs vs Rangers decision and which player was ‘absolutely crazy’
Lenny carefully considered some crucial choices for Viaplay Sports.
Prior to receiving a red card against Rangers, Neil Lennon asserts that Jordan Obita, a star for the Hibs, had lost his mind.
The Hibees were eliminated from the Scottish Cup by the Light Blues, and the left-back was the first of two players to be sent for an early bath.Obita received his first yellow card in the first half after he clipped Dujon Sterling in the area, giving up the penalty that John Lundstram scored on the rebound to make it 1-0.
After that, he continued to give more fouls, and he was involved in an incident where he attempted to eject Ross McCausland and the Gers physio as soon as possible to allow the game to go on while the winger was replaced. Then, Obita grabbed Rabbi Matondo by the arm, earning him a second yellow and a red.
“I don’t know where his mind was at, but he [Obita] was too emotional in the second half,” the former Easter Road boss said to Viaplay Sports.
It appeared as though he was pleading to be dismissed. He attempted to push McCausland off the field by getting into an altercation with the Rangers physiotherapist prior to receiving his second yellow card.
He should have calmed down, but he didn’t. Matondo raised his arm in what was obviously a body check. He left everything up to the referee’s judgment. It was really absurd.”
Lennon believed that VAR ought to have been consulted in order to reverse Nathan Moriah-Welsh’s red card. The pundit acknowledges that after the midfielder gave John Lundstram a violent challenge, he initially believed it might have been a red card.
However, he has questioned why VAR didn’t intervene after seeing replays that seemed to demonstrate it wasn’t as awful.
“At first glance, it appears to be a two-footed challenge, and you think ‘he’s in trouble here,'” he continued. However, I believe it to be a yellow and that it ought to have been inverted.”
