Rangers to let Kemar Roofe go and sign ‘A-list’ replacement – sources.
Rangers want to let Kemar Roofe go as a free agent this summer, according to Football Insider sources.
The 31-year-old’s lucrative deal ends at the end of the season, and the Ibrox club does not intend to extend it.
Given Roofe’s worrisome injury record in recent seasons, the Gers were unwilling to risk prolonging his stay.
Instead, the Glasgow giants hope to buy a ‘A-list’ striker this summer, using money saved from Roofe’s salaries to fund the move.
According to Football Insider, Rangers seek to sign Fabio Silva permanently if they receive a £20 million boost from Champions League qualification.
Rangers look for a new striker after letting Roofe go.
Roofe has spent the past four years at Ibrox, having joined from Leeds United in 2020.
He has made 96 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, scoring 38 goals and contributing seven assists.
Roofe, on the other hand, has struggled with injuries, missing 61 games in total while on the sidelines in Scotland.
He has made 18 appearances for Philippe Clement’s team this season, but has yet to play a full 90 minutes.
