‘I was speaking…’: ESPN writer issues behind-the-scenes claim about Everton’s most ‘important’ issue

Yesterday, Everton suffered yet another setback as they lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

It was a match that unfolded similarly to many others for Sean Dyche’s team this season, with them dominating yet failing to convert their opportunities.

They were eventually penalised for their wastefulness.

This team has struggled to score goals for many years, but it seems like their lack of proficiency is greater than ever this year given the abundance of opportunities they are creating.

Still, that’s hardly surprising considering the stars that have sold recently.

Mark Ogden’s remarks regarding Everton

In a conversation on the Football Daily podcast on BBC 5 Live, ESPN writer Mark Ogden discussed the main cause of Everton’s current problems.

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look, he revealed the following: “I spoke with an Everton employee last season, and they told me how important it was that they didn’t replace Richarlison when he left.”

Because he was the one who, I believe Frank Lampard discovered in the second season of his Everton tenure, and now Sean Dyche is discovering that he possesses all of the qualities Sean Dyche has requested—fighting spirit, toughness, and desire—and he essentially kept them going when Frank did so two years ago.

“They haven’t reinvested the funds since he left, Calvert-Lewin has sustained numerous injuries, Beto isn’t good enough, and in general, Everton’s forwards aren’t good enough or fit enough.” They have missed Richarlison terribly. Even though he left 18 months ago, you can still see how much of a void he left.

Everton is really missing Richarlison.

While saying that Everton misses Richarlison is hardly novel shattering, few probably foresaw the full impact of his £60 million sale in 2022.

Even if that price has played a significant role in mitigating their PSR issues, the harm it has caused to the field is irreversible.

After all, it took away from them a warrior who genuinely loved the football team, as well as the last genuine goalscoring talisman.

He had earned his transfer to a Champions League team by giving his all for Everton, as he frequently did.

He’s back to his best for Tottenham Hotspur, and he represents everything the Toffees are missing right now.

The Brazil international finished his final season at Goodison Park with ten goals and five assists for a team lacking in originality and skill. They are unlikely to witness a miracle like that again.

Ultimately, no one on this side is quite like him. Ogden’s analysis, which links his selling to all of Everton’s problems, is spot on.
