Everton vs Manchester United: Ex-Referees chief slams Alejandro Garnacho ‘simulation’ footage

Everton versus Manchester United: Former referee chief blasts Alejandro Garnacho’s’simulation’ film.

Keith Hackett supports criticism of Alejandro Garnacho for “simulation” during the win over Everton at Old Trafford.

On March 10, the ex-Premier League referee and former head of the PGMOL responded on Twitter, saying that a Toffees supporter was “spot on” in highlighting the Argentine’s actions.

Despite Jordan Pickford’s excellent performance in goal, Sean Dyche’s team failed to capitalize on their dominance, resulting in two penalties for the United youngster.

After 10 minutes, he was caught by a lazy trailing leg from James Tarkowski and left writhing on the field in apparent discomfort, until he recognized he had won a penalty kick and promptly stood up and celebrated in front of the home crowd.

Hackett wrote: “Your views are spot on. In the late 1980s and 1990s, we noticed an increase in acts of simulation.”

Alejandro Garnacho accused of’simulation’ as Everton loses at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old was the key danger for a flat United side, who may feel they got away with one against Sean Dyche’s men, who once again failed to capitalize on their opportunities.

Although Garnacho’s extracurricular activities were somewhat aggravating, there were few complaints about either of the penalties, making his feigned injury mostly superfluous.

He could claim that without it, the ever-unpredictable authorities would have just disregarded the meeting, and considering how many strange choices are made each week, he could be right.

He wasn’t caught very hard by Tarkowski, whose sloppy swinging leg summed up an otherwise disappointing afternoon for the Everton centre-back, but in contemporary football, contact is enough to get a penalty, so if he had just gone down and appealed, the VAR would have likely given it any way.

Ben Godfrey’s decision to surge in and knock him down a second time before the interval, after James Garner fumbled a tackle outside the box and Amadou Onana, who was already on a booking, pulled out of his own, was even more obvious.

Dyche’s frustration with his team’s performance against Erik ten Hag’s side was compounded by two key mistakes that resulted in goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The footage of Garnacho only added to the frustration.
