The head coach of the Hornets has goals set for the upcoming campaign.
Celtic will compete this season for two titles. But Brendan Rodgers acknowledges that he’s quite eager for the upcoming semester.
In order to complete a domestic double this season, the Hoops need to defeat Livingston in order to go to the Scottish Cup semi-finals. However, Rodgers disclosed that he has begun making plans for the summer in an effort to “fire up” his Parkhead team.
“I’m really excited about next season having seen the group and the squad,” he declared. Now that I’ve seen players that had been out for some time, I want to grow our team. I’m very happy with that. On that front, a lot of work is being done.
Is this an opportunity for me to sign it? Yes. We lost key players who would have altered the appearance of the game. They were more than simply skilled football players; they were personalities, and losing that to the squad is difficult. Despite all that has been thrown at them, the team has performed admirably this season.
“Seeing what it requires and how it might grow and develop is important. Those boys had recently finished a season in which they had won a triple crown, so I had to give them the chance. However, I am also aware—based on my football experience—that there is a turnover rate at teams like Celtic every three to four years.
“You still need to energise the team even if you’re winning. We’ll consider doing that in the upcoming summer. Strangely enough, I’ve liked this season since there have been so many obstacles and setbacks. But in the long run, that will work out well for us. We are in a fantastic title race, and even if we had won last weekend, we would have been two points behind the Rangers.”
With Joe Hart’s end-of-season retirement, Celtic will have a huge void both on and off the pitch. Furthermore, Rodgers acknowledges that replacing the England veteran will be a difficult challenge for the winners.
“The goalkeeping situation will be important,” he continued. Players with that character and mindset are what you need. Joe has made a huge impact throughout his stay here. He has been tremendous over his three years here. It will be a major task for us to succeed him.
“I also want to develop a football plan that gives our younger players the chance. We have some incredibly gifted young players here, and my life’s work has always been to develop young players.”
