Gary Lineker and Ian Wright claim that Everton manager Sean Dyche is finding it difficult to end the Toffees’ “profligate” goal-scoring streak in the wake of the Blues’ loss to Manchester United.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford both scored first-half penalties as Dyche’s team lost 2-0 against the Red Devils on Saturday, March 9, 2024, prolonging their winless streak in the Premier League.
Notwithstanding the result, Lineker feels that the Toffees had enough chances to tie the game but failed to convert them in a way that is “all too familiar.”
Speaking on Match of the Day on March 9 at 29:50, he stated: “It’s a story that Everton fans are all too acquainted with, isn’t it? So careless in front of the objective.
Wright agreed immediately away, stating: “Like the manager said, they’re doing everything properly, but because they started the game so well, it’s the composure and some of the decisions they’re making at the end that’s the problem.
“They’re incredibly unfortunate today, but Man United’s penalty take was really well-executed. I felt that Everton’s strategy was excellent, therefore they were really lucky.
As pressure rises following Everton’s loss to Manchester United, could Sean Dyche be fired?
Under Dyche’s leadership, Everton has experienced far too many of these senseless games and heartbreaking losses recently, as both Lineker and Wright pointed out, since the Toffees never seem to be in the scoring zone.
The Blues look great when in control, but when they try to reach the back of the net in the final third, all of their confidence appears to evaporate. It’s difficult to see them avoiding the drop into the Championship if this keeps up.
Although fans and commentators have criticised Dominic Calvert-Lewin heavily for his poor finishing, he is not the only player who missed opportunities on Saturday; a number of Everton players also wasted excellent chances.
Hopefully, between now and the conclusion of the season, Dyche can get his frontline clicking. If the situation at Goodison Park doesn’t improve soon, the Englishman might be fired as pressure on him grows.
