Colton McKivitz’s contract as a right tackle has been extended by the San Francisco 49ers for one more year.

Right tackle Colton McKivitz and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a one-year deal that will keep him with the organisation through the 2025 campaign.

AMDG Sports reps for McKivitz said on Friday that the seven million dollar agreement for 2025 comes with a guaranteed sum of about four million dollars. He inked a two-year, $4.56 million contract last offseason, which is presently in its last season.

After being selected by the Niners in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, McKivitz played in five games over his first three seasons. Last season, he took over as the starting quarterback after Mike McGlinchey left in free agency.

The 27-year-old started all 17 games in the previous campaign, accounting for an astounding 98% of San Francisco’s offensive snaps and being a reliable presence in three postseason games.

As a result of his services on the field, McKivitz was recognised by his teammates and given the Bobb McKittrick Award, which is given annually to an offensive lineman for the Niners who exemplifies bravery, intensity, and sacrifice.

Despite giving up 47 pressures in the previous season—which tied for sixth most among all NFL tackles according to Pro Football Focus—McKivitz’s dependability was clear. His 12 pressures given up in three playoff games highlighted the team’s need to strengthen pass protection, especially for Brock Purdy, the quarterback.

The Niners hope to strengthen their offensive line with the impending free agency of Jon Feliciano, who split time as Spencer Burford’s right guard. McKivitz’s versatility—he has played guard and other positions during his career—gives San Francisco a lot of flexibility, particularly if they decide to select a right tackle in the next draft.
