Everton head coach Sean Dyche has insisted that the Toffees are not interested in selling Jarrad Branthwaite amid the ongoing speculation surrounding the centre-back’s future.
The 21-year-old has made 30 appearances in all competitions for his Merseyside club this season, and it is rumored that Manchester United is keen to buy him this summer.
The clubs who are reportedly interested in the England Under-21 international, who spent the 2022–2023 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, are Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Real Madrid.
There have been rumors that Everton’s financial issues may force them to sell Branthwaite this summer.
The center defender’s contract at Goodison Park expires in June 2027, though, and Dyche has stated that his team is not willing to consider the center back leaving in the summer.
“We wish to keep all of our talented players. That’s all there is to it, and he has shown himself to be an excellent player. We’re not in the player sales business, Dyche said reporters.
“Players are only sold when necessary or when an issue arises. Since there isn’t a problem, my only wish is that we won’t have to sell players. We certainly don’t right now, so we’ll see.
“I liked what I saw of him. I thought, “Go on then, go and enjoy it, go and have a go,” when the time was perfect. I could have just gone to play instead of saying anything to him.
He’s done a great job adapting. He still has to work on a few things, but you can’t just throw everything at a player and call it done; you have to gently unpack them.
“So, even if he’s learning and developing well, sometimes the hardest thing is to just stand back and say, ‘No, no, you’re good, you keep doing what you’re doing,’ without providing any coaching at all.
“There may be the occasional little team that needs tactical advice, but I won’t be dissecting every game and telling players what has to be done. Allow him to learn on his own as he grows.
“I hope he learns from his surroundings and culture, like you do. That is a component of our goals. Not only is it about words, but also about our shared values being reflected in the performance, and there are some excellent, seasoned players here.
He’s undoubtedly picking up knowledge because there are several excellent pros around. I don’t sit down and explain everything to him. We occasionally have a brief conversation, nothing unusual.”
Everton’s current Premier League standings are 16th, five points ahead of 18th-placed Luton Town, who have a game in hand. Relegation this season would make it impossible for the club to retain hold of their key players this summer.
