Michael Thomas seems to confirm exit from Saints, remembers his time in New Orleans

Michael Thomas seems to confirm exit from Saints, remembers his time in New Orleans.

On Saturday, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas confirmed his departure from New Orleans on social media, expressing gratitude to the fans for their support.

“The love from Saints Nation has always been so authentic in reality and from the real fans,” Thomas wrote on “X,” the network that was previously known as Twitter.

The Saints plan to release Thomas after the new league year begins next week, rather than paying for his second year of a contract negotiated last offseason.

Thomas also reposted a number of fan messages and images, as well as other postings documenting charity work he did in New Orleans during his time with the Saints.

“I arrived in Treme, New Orleans, in a boot and gave kids a Christmas they’d never forget. “And put smiles on everyone’s faces,” he wrote in one.

Thomas also remembered happy experiences in the Superdome, particularly when he played with Drew Brees and helped the Saints reach the playoffs four years in a row from 2017 to 2020.

Thomas was a two-time All-Pro and the 2019 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, while also setting a league record with 149 receptions. However, he suffered repeated ailments and only made 95 receptions in his final four seasons with the Saints.

“It was always exciting to turn the Dome into one big celebration. Not everyone can do it,” he wrote in one, and in another, “We took it too far or it didn’t appear honest. #WhoDat.”

When the Saints release Thomas, he will become a free agent and able to sign with any team.
