Former first-round selection to be released by the Raiders

It is anticipated that the former first-round NFL Draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders would be released.

A former first-round draft pick is no longer with the Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN, the Raiders intend to release Jerry Tillery. When the new league season starts on Wednesday, Tillery is anticipated to leave the team.

The Los Angeles Chargers selected Tillery in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The defensive lineman was picked up by the Raiders after the franchise parted ways with him in 2022. The defensive tackle recorded 29 total tackles in the 2023 season, including nine solo stops. The Raiders’ campaign ended with a depressing 8-9 record.

In the last two seasons, Tillery appeared in 25 games for the Raiders. In that period, he recorded two sacks, but he was unable to produce jaw-dropping performances in Las Vegas. In his last three games for Las Vegas, he has only recorded one solo tackle and was ejected from one game due to a vicious hit. He was not as successful as he had been in Los Angeles. Between 2019 and 2022, the defensive tackle totaled 98 tackles while playing with the Chargers.

With the Chargers in 2021, the defensive tackle had his greatest season in the NFL. He had 46 total tackles that season in addition to 4.5 sacks. That year, he made 19 solo stops for Los Angeles. With plenty of football still in him, Tillery’s future destination will be intriguing to watch.

The lineman was a football player at Notre Dame University. In the 2019 draft, he was selected with the 28th overall pick.
