Ex-Sunderland, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday striker signs seven-week deal at League One club

Former Sunderland, Leeds, and Sheffield Wednesday striker inks seven-week agreement with League One team.

Former Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has signed a short-term contract with League One club Charlton until the end of April.

The 30-year-old forward has been without a club since leaving Cardiff at the conclusion of last season, but he has been training with Charlton for the last two weeks.

Wickham played 91 games for Sunderland after moving from Ipswich in 2011, before joining Crystal Palace four years later. During his time with the Black Cats, the striker went on loan to Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.

Nathan Jones, Charlton’s manager, commented on Wickham’s arrival: “Connor has been here for a few weeks and we like him as a person, so that’s the start.” His experience, physicality, and talent make him an excellent signing. We’re glad to have him here, and it will be intriguing to see how much we can pull out of him.”

Wickham stated of his relocation to the Valley, “I’m excited to be here.”It’s a nice chance for me to work with a strong bunch of guys and a good management in the latter half of the season, so I’m looking forward to it.

Results have recently improved, and there will be a strong push until the end of the season.”

Charlton are 14th in League One, seven points above the relegation zone. Wickham’s contract runs until the end of April, with the Addicks playing four league games throughout that period.
