Everton: Sean Dyche must axe Ben Godfrey at half-time v Manchester United

Everton: Sean Dyche must fire Ben Godfrey at halftime against Manchester United.

Sean Dyche must replace Everton defender Ben Godfrey at halftime if he is to get back into the game against Manchester United.

The Toffees are 2-0 down at the interval after surrendering two penalties, with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scoring from the spot.

Despite being undoubtedly the superior team in open play, two foolish challenges by defenders have cost them thus far, and Dyche must now find a way to be more direct and get back into the game.

Ben Godfrey has to come off

James Tarkowski made the first tackle, taking down Alejandro Garnacho from a standing position, which was terrible, but Godfrey allowed the second penalty, which concluded his half.

He dangled a leg out against the clever winger, who was sprinting quickly, and virtually urged the Argentine to trip, giving the home team a 2-0 lead from the penalty spot.

But it’s evident that Godfrey, despite his recent fine form, isn’t a natural right-back, and the Toffees need to move him on to find more balance in the squad.

Substitutes Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman, and Ashley Young provide stronger alternatives in terms of crossing, movement, and one-on-one defense.

Everton have caused United significant issues in transition and on set pieces, which would require any of those players to improve.

Dyche must make a decision and remove Godfrey if he hopes to score points.
