Everton player ratings vs Man Utd: three score 6/10, lots of 5/10s and one 4/10 in loss

Player rankings and scores for Everton from their 2-0 Premier League loss at Old Trafford versus Manchester United.

Everton lost 2-0 at Old Trafford to Manchester United, and they were the architects of their own demise.

After giving up two penalties in the first forty-five minutes, the Toffees were unable to regain the Red Devils’ dominant lead. Although they did have opportunities in the first half, Sean Dyche’s team wasted them once more, and they have now lost their last 11 Premier League games.

In just the third minute, Dwight McNeil presented Amadou Onana with a wonderful opportunity for Everton to take the lead. However, he was undecided about whether to use his head or foot, and United keeper Andre Onana collected.

And in the twelfth minute, the hosts gained the lead as a result of that error. Alejandro Garnacho was taken down inside the area by Toffees captain James Tarkowski’s reckless tackle, and Bruno Fernandes scored the penalty.

To their credit, Everton managed a respectable comeback, with James Garner’s shot saved by Andre Onana and McNeil’s volley swishing wide. Jordan Pickford of the Blues was then forced into action as he produced a superb save to block Fernandes’ free kick.

In the 35th minute, Everton gave themselves a mountain to climb as they gave up another penalty. Once more, it was Garnacho who caused mayhem when he charged into the scene and was cut down by Ben Godfrey. Marcus Rashford stepped up and misdirected Pickford this time.

In the second half, Dyche would have expected his team to respond, but they didn’t give United enough trouble. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s attempt at goal was easily stopped at the near post, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was unable to connect with a cross from fellow replacement Lewis Dobbin.

In actuality, Everton deserved nothing from the match; in fact, they were fortunate to escape a third penalty when Jarrad Branthwaite misjudged a challenge on Rashford in the 94th minute due to an offside flag. And with three weeks without a game under his belt, Dyche has a lot to think about to make sure the Toffees avoid being drawn into yet another relegation struggle. This is how the Everton players were ranked.
