Due to two penalties awarded for Alejandro Garnacho’s fouls, United led the Toffees 2-0 at the break of their Premier League match at Old Trafford during the half. After Garnacho was taken down inside the penalty area by a reckless challenge from James Tarkowski, Fernandes scored the first goal.

The captain of United maintained composure by sending his spot-kick low and out of Jordan Pickford’s grasp. With his goal on Saturday, he drew level with Dwight Yorke, Robin van Persie, and Dimitar Berbatov with 48 goals for the team overall in the competition.

Garnacho, meanwhile, made history by becoming the first United player to win two penalties in a Premier League match with his driving dashes into the area. He might have had an impact on another as well, but Vitaliy Mykolenko’s handball claim following Garnacho’s cut-back was dismissed by the referee.

The fact that there were two separate penalty takers in the first half of a Premier League match was naturally unprecedented for United. Wayne Rooney, United’s former striker, was perplexed as to why they had two different takers despite the fact that they scored both of their penalties.
