Brendan Rodgers Celtic ban decision splits the Jury as Rangers land unanimous Europa League verdict

This week, Record Sport’s senior team breaks down the biggest talking themes in Scottish football.

Should Brendan Rodgers be reprimanded for his statements following the defeat to Hearts?

Michael Gannon: It’s inevitable he’ll get done. The rules are explicit on criticizing the ability of officials, regardless of their point. It just depends on how badly he was hit and whether he’ll miss Ibrox.

According to Graeme Young, Rodgers’ accusations regarding John Beaton give little opportunity for wiggle room, despite his reputation for being calm on the field. However, the extended date will provide plenty of time to contest the charge.

Scott Burns: I understand Brendan’s angst. He was correct to voice his point and stick up for his teammates. I don’t think he should be banned, but it’s likely to happen.

Do you think Rangers will finish the job off at Ibrox against Benfica?

Michael: It was a superb result in Portugal considering the injury absences. There was nothing to fear from Benfica the other night and Rangers should smell blood.

Graeme: Yes. Rangers have coughed up three consecutive leads against Benfica in recent years but the Portuguese giants appear one bad result from the wheels coming off and that appears likely at a white-hot Ibrox.

Scott: The fact that Rangers were disappointed not to win the game tells its own story. It will give them confidence they can finish the job at a packed out Ibrox.

Have Celtic left themselves short by letting Liel Abada and Alexandro Bernabei go this week?

Michael says, “Big time.”Abada should have taken a loan till things cooled down. Celtic retained Bernabei due of a lack of left back options in January. Celtic have walked themselves onto a tightrope.

Graeme: Both were unlikely to feature much for various reasons, however, the rampaging left-back’s departure is a high risk move since he was starting games only last month with Greg Taylor on the bench. It’s currently an unequal squad across numerous positions.

Scott: Both guys were excited to go. I don’t think Abada will play again, which is a good return for Celtic. My concern with Bernabei would arise if Taylor were harmed.

Which four clubs do you believe will proceed to the Scottish Cup semi-finals?

Michael predicts that Hearts will win, Celtic and Rangers will struggle, and Killie will worsen Aberdeen’s situation.

Graeme predicts a roaring win for Aberdeen, a thriller for Rangers, and dominance by Celtic and Hearts.

Scott is concerned that Kilmarnock will worsen Aberdeen’s current situation. Celtic and Rangers will both advance, and Hearts should defeat Morton, but it might be close.
