BORN ON THIS DAY: SUNGERLAND SUPER STAR

Hysen was raised in Sweden until his parents got divorced. Following this, he travelled throughout his youth, visiting different countries based on the team his father was playing for at the time.

Beginning in the academy and working his way up to the main squad, he began his career at the Swedish club BK Hacken. He played in the Swedish top division for a few years there, earning invaluable experience.

He left Hacken on a free transfer to play for fellow Swedish team Djurgarden. He tasted cutlery for the first time right here. His debut season ended with a Swedish Cup victory. Then, a season later, he accomplished the double by winning the Swedish Cup and the Allsvenskan championship. In addition, he received the Swedish Newcomer of the Year title.

We chose to sign him in our attempt to get promoted back to the Premier League after this because we had had enough. He signed a £1.7 million contract with Niall Quinn, but he naturally finished the season with Keano.

Over the course of our Championship campaign, which saw us win, the left winger made 26 appearances. In that time, he created three assists and scored four goals. We defeated West Brom 2-0 at home in our season opener, and he contributed one assist on his debut. We tied 1-1 with Leicester after he scored his first goal in his subsequent game. He must have enjoyed playing against Leicester because he scored in the away team’s 2-1 victory in the rematch.

Hysen informed the team that he intended to return to Sweden after just one season. His desire to raise a family back home was one of the primary causes of this. We chose to comply with his request in 2007 and sold him to IFK Goteborg in Sweden. He became the fifth member of his family to play for them, carrying on what was by now a long-standing custom.

He reconnected with the League Cup twice and the League title once more with IFK Goteborg. After winning the top scorer title for the season with 18 goals, he was able to establish quite the name in Sweden.

Tobias had a unique year in 2013. He was awarded Player of the Season as well as Forward of the Season. Alongside former Sunderland player Seb Larsson, he took on European powerhouse Germany in a World Cup qualifying match. Hysen scored the first goal after combining with Larsson and beating Neuer with a header. Later on in the match, Sweden was behind 4-2 before the two teamed up once more. Seb floatt a free kick above the defensive line, and Hysen nailed it on the volley, denying Neuer any opportunity to save it. Even though Germany won the match 5–3, fans undoubtedly enjoyed his volley, especially up against such a formidable opponent.
