Sunderland may regret not appointing 36-year-old as head coach when they had the chance: View

Sunderland appointed Michael Beale in December, but they could have had promising Swedish manager Kim Hellberg

The Black Cats’ season, which held much promise, has fallen flat, and they now appear destined to finish in the middle of the league.

When the team fired Tony Mowbray on December 4th, when they were in ninth place and barely outside of the playoffs, this was very definitely not the idea. Sunderland hasn’t fared well under the new, younger manager who was supposed to lead the team to greater heights.

The club took their time in finding a replacement for Mowbray, and despite being linked with plenty of managers, they settled for former Rangers boss Michael Beale, which underwhelmed and frustrated their supporters.

One manager the club interviewed was Swede Kim Hellberg. In hindsight, this could have been a far better move for Sunderland and the club may not be in the situation they’re facing currently had they appointed the 36-year-old.
