The 52-year-old led the Hoops to five league championships in two periods.

Former Celtic and Hibernian manager Neil Lennon has shown an interest in the Aberdeen position.

Following Barry Robson’s departure, Neil Warnock was chosen temporary manager until the conclusion of the season to provide the Dons board time to conduct a review of the club’s football operations and find a long-term successor.

The Dons are 10th in the Scottish Premiership and face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals this weekend.

Speaking at a media gathering to promote Viaplay’s live broadcast of this weekend’s cup match between Hibernian and Rangers, Lennon reaffirmed his desire to take over at Pittodrie.

“Timing is crucial, and the Aberdeen post is something I would be very interested in, without a doubt.

“I think there is great potential at Aberdeen.”

Hunger for managerial opportunity

Over two spells at Celtic, Lennong led the club to five league titles, four Scottish Cups, and a League Cup.

He also led Hibernian to the Scottish Championship in 2017, and his most recent accomplishment was winning the 2022 Cypriot Cup with Omonia.

Lennon, who was highly tipped for the Republic of Ireland position, believes he still has a lot to contribute if the appropriate opportunity arises.

He stated, “At 52, I believe my best years as a football manager and coach are ahead of me in terms of experience, achievements in the game, and what I have done and learned as a manager.”

“I believe there is an incorrect perception of me. I’ve accomplished a lot – titles, trebles, Champions League – and I even went abroad and won a trophy, propelling that team into the Europa League. I’ve won the Scottish Cup four times, both as a player and manager. I have actual experience.

“I got the Celtic job when I was really young. That was around 15 years ago, and while people assume I’m getting older, I still have lots of energy.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in, but the managerial field is so competitive, with so many applicants available.

“With certain clubs, you may fit the definition of what they want, whilst others may regard you as not being the type of coach that they seek. I can manage and coach, so I can do both.

“I’m having fun talking c**p as a pundit for the time being, and I appreciate the work, but it’s not what I want to do.

“I believe I still have a lot to offer as a coach.

“Throughout my coaching career, I’ve accomplished a lot. I’ve accomplished a lot, but there is still much more to do and more that I want to do.”
