Jenson Seelt explains Sunderland challenges after transfer from PSV and starts against Norwich and Leicester

Since joining Sunderland, Jenson Seelt claims he’s had to adjust to playing at a higher intensity.

The 20-year-old defender signed a five-year contract with the Black Cats in the summer after playing for PSV’s under-21 team the previous year. Seelt had to wait for his chance on Wearside, but he has started the team’s last three games and made 16 appearances in the Championship.

When asked about his transfer to England, Seelt told the Echo, “The intensity is so much higher than in Holland.” You have to stay focused and on your toes at all times because the game moves quickly. I’m in good spirits. It’s a little tight in some places, but hopefully I can make it through and continue to be fit. That is the the most crucial thing is to just never stop playing games.

Seelt has had three different head coaches at Sunderland. Mike Dodds, an interim manager, will take over until the end of the current campaign after the club fired Tony Mowbray and Michael Beale.

In response to a question concerning the team’s adjustments since Dodds assumed leadership last month, Seelt said, “Maybe the tactics are a little bit different.” We always strive, in my opinion, to train well and grow as individuals. Regarding that topic, not much has changed.
“I’m really happy with my move,” he continued. Basically, all I’m dealing with is choosing Sunderland as my destination. I believe I’m on the right track, and I’ll do everything it takes to make it a great story. All I’m trying to do is grow every day here.

Seelt will probably start for the Black Cats against Southampton on Saturday. Luke O’Nien, the captain of the team, will miss two matches after earning his tenth yellow card of the year. “I love playing at the moment, I wish we could have better results but we have to stay on the right path and find a way to keep winning again,” Seelt said in response to a question regarding his recent winning streak.
