Everton preparing for life without key man as Chelsea come calling

Given his outstanding achievements this season, Everton seems to have accepted the possibility that Jarrad Branthwaite may leave the team at the end of the campaign.

With Chelsea and other Premier League teams showing interest in Branthwaite, the Toffees seem to be preparing for his departure this summer. The Daily Mirror claims that they are keeping an eye on Hull City’s Jacob Greaves as a possible replacement for the defender.

The same source claims that Branthwaite is admired by both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Daily Mail had reported in January that Chelsea was considering a summer transfer for the centre defender. With 30 appearances in all competitions this season, Branthwaite has been an integral part of Everton’s success.

Undoubtedly, this season has seen Branthwaite emerge as one of the better young defenders in the Premier League, so it makes sense that other teams are vying for the Everton player.

In actuality, though, Sean Dyche won’t want to part with the 21-year-old unless he has a suitable successor. The Toffees would undoubtedly be interested in Hull City’s Jacob Greaves considering his impressive season with the Championship team.

Will Chelsea make an offer for Branthwaite of Everton?

On paper, Chelsea’s centre defence seems to be well-constructed. But things are different when Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana sustain serious injuries on a regular basis. They also need to find a solid central defence in the summer transfer window to address Thiago Silva’s contract, which is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign and there are no signs of an extension for the Brazilian.

We already know that Chelsea has no financial difficulties, which will most certain appeal to Everton fans and the team as Branthwaite stays connected to the Blues.
