CELTIC FORMER PLAYER: Championship wrap: Mikey Johnston continues to work his magic, as West Brom let up a late equalizer

Championship wrap: Mikey Johnston produces more magic but West Brom concede late equaliser

Winger Mikey Johnston of the Republic of Ireland put in yet another outstanding performance as promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion and Queen’s Park Rangers drew 2-2.

Johnston, who is becoming known for his spectacular goals, tied the score for Albion with another goal twenty-five minutes after Sam Field’s first.

The Celtic loanee scored four goals in eight games since joining the Baggies at the start of February by cutting in from the left, past Jimmy Dunne and Paul Smyth, and sending a fierce shot off the post.

Two minutes after Grady Diangana gave the visitors the lead, Michael Frey of QPR had a second-half penalty saved by Alex Palmer.

With nine minutes remaining, Field nodded home to give the R’s an equalizer and lifted them one point above the relegation zone.

In other action, Middlesbrough defeated 10-man Norwich 3-1 at Riverside Stadium.

The first goal was scored by Ashley Barnes, but after 30 minutes, Borja Sainz was sent off for kicking out at Jonny Howson, ending Norwich’s chances of victory.

Following that, strikes from Marcus Forss, Emmanuel Latte Lath, and Lukas Engel helped the hosts win handily.

Cardiff defeated Huddersfield 1-0 in the first half thanks to a goal from Famara Diedhiou, earning their third straight win.

With the goal, Cardiff moved to within seven points of the play-off places. It was Diedhiou’s first goal in English football since a brace for Bristol City versus Middlesbrough in February 2021.

Just one goal above the bottom three and in serious relegation danger, Huddersfield has scored more goals than Stoke, who are in 22nd position.

Vicarage Road saw a 1-1 draw between Watford and Swansea. The Welsh team took the lead thanks to a Ryan Andrews own goal, but Wesley Hoedt‘s goal after the break gave Valerien Ismael’s team a point.

The Southampton team’s game against Preston was rescheduled due to a massive fire that started near St Mary’s Stadium just hours before kickoff.
