Watford eyeing Celtic transfer swoop
This summer, Watford will try to sign a young, talented player at Celtic.
This summer, Watford is interested in recruiting Rocco Vata of Celtic.
The Championship team is reportedly showing interest in the 18-year-old ahead of the transfer market’s reopening at the end of the current campaign, according to The Athletic.
Vata, an Ireland U21 international, has already made his Scottish Premiership debut with the first team.
The Hornets are monitoring his development and could try to sign the young player in the summer.
The forward can sign a contract as a free agent because his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Watford transfer latest
Even though Vata will soon be a free agent, any move to sign him will still need to pay Celtic a price in exchange.
Any compensation will probably cost up to £239,000, depending on what a tribunal decides later.
Watford will, however, have to contend with competition from European teams vying for the teenager’s signature.
It has also been reported that teams like Como, Bologna, and Sampdoria are interested in the Ireland young international.
Vata last played for Celtic on February 3 in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen. According to Fbref’s statistics, he has made five league appearances.
The youthful player made his season debut in the latter minutes by coming off the bench.
Though he has been given a new contract by the Scottish team that would bind him to the Hoops until the summer of 2027 if accepted, his probable departure from Parkhead could be due to a lack of playing time.
Vata is reportedly eager to get more first team experience, which could affect where he plays come season.
This could make it easier for the Championship team to sign him to a contract at Vicarage Road, given his lack of playing time at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.
There is currently a threat to Valerien Ismael’s job at Watford, which may possibly influence any possible trade.
The squad has dropped to 12th place in the standings as a result of the 48-year-old’s dismal recent performance.
With 11 games left in the season, the squad has lost four of its past five Championship games, and the difference between them and the play-off spots is currently 13 points.
Ismael’s team’s next game is this evening at home against Swansea City, which kicks off at 7:45 p.m.
Vata is a promising talent
Vata has earned international recognition at U21 level already, which is a sign of his promising talent.
Given the potential fee to sign the forward, this could prove a very shrewd move by the club.
Acquiring young talent at a low cost and developing them into more well-rounded players over a few years is a smart way to do business in the transfer window.
This could be a great example of this, and having a bright young forward coming through the ranks will be quite exciting for supporters.
If Watford can guarantee him some game time, then this could be a deal that has the potential to work out for both parties.
