Steven Naismith details Hearts work to try and compete with Celtic and Rangers

What Hearts and Steven Naismith are doing to try and compete with Celtic and Rangers.

The Jambos have a sizable lead in third place, but the next round will present more of a struggle.

Even if Celtic and Rangers are in different financial leagues, Steven Naismith believes that the Hearts may still make progress toward closing the gap.

The Jambos are currently 13 points ahead of St. Mirren, who are in fourth place, and miles ahead of the pursuing pack. Years of Old Firm domination have demonstrated that while the same distance is maintained all the way to Celtic and second, it is not an easy prospect to gaze up instead of down.

In previous situations where a story has revolved around Hearts’ ability to draw closer to the big two, the answer has consistently been “no.” However, the organization’s current leader, Naismith, is a thinker and maintains that small actions might eventually build up to a big jump.

“You must examine all aspects,” he stated to the Edinburgh News.”Playing at home against a sit-in squad is just as difficult as facing the top teams in the league for many reasons. These are the games that we should be playing. Ibrox wasn’t suitable the previous week.

“After examining the statistics from that 5-0 Rangers match, I would contend that we were mostly responsible for conceding all five goals. The score was 3-0 at the break, but the remaining statistics are about where they should be when we play the Old Firm.

“On Sunday, our stats were comparable. We will have an equal number of shots and a portion of the game as they do. Here is where we must maintain consistency. It’s what allows you to demonstrate that you are a competitor.

“Everything counts. Other examples include playing in Europe throughout the week, returning home during the weekend, and receiving a positive outcome. Rather than just declaring, “Oh, we’ve beaten one of the Old Firm,” each of these items illustrates the process. It is unacceptable if we consistently defeat other clubs while defeating the Old Firm.”
