Really impressive’: Former Rangers ace in top form with £12m fee ‘a bargain’

Malik Tillman, a former Rangers loanee, is making his mark at PSV Eindhoven, with a £12 million permanent transfer for the Bayern Munich-owned midfielder described as ‘a bargain’.

PSV’s depth is evident in the fact that players like Ismael Saibari, Guus Til, and Patrick van Aanholt, who would be starters in other Eredivisie teams, are not guaranteed to start under Peter Bosz.

Malik Tillman, too.

Tillman, who was a hit on loan at Rangers in 2023/24, has made as many appearances off the bench (nine) as in the PSV XI this season. Despite limited playing time in Eindhoven, the former Ibrox ace has demonstrated that a £12 million permanent deal is justified.

Former Rangers ace stars at PSV Eindhoven.

“It’s a bargain,” Dutch football analyst Valentijn Driessen told De Telegraaf, after Tillman nutmegged the highly-rated David Hancko and fired home during PSV’s 2-2 draw with Feyenoord last weekend.

“Tillman made an excellent move. Of course, if you can get it, it’s a great deal. If he plays two or three more good games in the Champions League, he will earn a lot.”

Driessen believes that the £12 million charge is an investment for both the now and the future. PSV, like all Dutch clubs, follows a sign-low, sell-high approach, and a player with Tillman’s skill, guile, and end-product might earn the club a sizable profit later on.

Tillman has six goals and nine assists for PSV this season. He is only two goals away from matching his ‘goal contributions’ from the 2022/23 season at Rangers.

Malil Tillman considers £12 million “a bargain.”

“He does things that not all athletes can do, and he always looks out for his teammates. “He turns well, frees himself up, and passes the ball quickly,” adds Ibrahim Afellay, a former Barcelona winger.

“Then, he maintains control and accelerates again. What he displays is quite astounding.

“He still appears to be somewhat laconic at times. He doesn’t appear to care about anything. But he has so much talent; he truly is a boy with a lot of potential. I sincerely hope that PSV will soon utilize Tillman’s purchase option.”

Former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst stated that the Glasgow club had hoped to keep Tillman in Scotland, but Bayern Munich shattered their expectations and sold him to the financially stronger PSV.

Rangers will take on Benfica in the Europa League last-16 opening leg on Thursday.
