Rangers: Sky Sports show Ross McCausland film at Auchenhowie despite injury worry v Benfica.
Rangers have been handed a significant boost as Ross McCausland was observed in training ahead of the Europa League meeting with Benfica this week.
The winger was “kicked off the pitch” during the 2-1 defeat to Motherwell after a terrible tackle in the first-half, and was believed to be a doubt for the trip to Lisbon on Thursday (7 March).
But while broadcasting live from the training ground, Sky Sports News revealed that the teenage winger has been practicing with the rest of the group ahead of the game which suggests he should be available to play.
With all the serious injury difficulties that Rangers have been dealing with, having McCausland ruled out of the game would have been a massive blow for the trip to Lisbon.
Recently Philippe Clement has found his offensive options limited with all of Danilo, Abdallah Sima, Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo out injured.
Oscar Cortes then picked up a “serious” injury and faces two months out recently too, meaning natural full-back Dujon Sterling has been forced to fill in out wide.
But against top level opponents like Benfica the team needs to be a formidable threat going forward as well as being able to be good defensively, and having options to select from makes the manager’s job easier.
While his form hasn’t been the brightest as it was when he initially got into the team, his pace on the counter-attack could well be the difference and it can only be good news that he’s available and training.
