Gary Lineker has been once again chatting about Everton, one of his former clubs, on his podcast.
After spending just one season at Goodison Park, where he scored 40 goals in all competitions, the 63-year-old left Merseyside for Barcelona.
Though his time there was brief, it appears the Toffees had a lasting effect on him because he continues to support them and his favourite Leicester City to this day.
Also, he was able to honour one of his former comrades, which greatly enhanced his career.

Being a member of a team that included so many match-winning players, it is not surprising that Lineker would pick one of those guys as his favourite to play with.
After all, there are plenty of options, including Peter Reid, Trevor Stevens, and the lethal Kevin Sheedy, who all have menacing delivery.
But in an interview with The Rest is Football, he picked a striker as one of his greatest club mates ever, saying, “I’d probably go Alan Smith for Leicester or Graeme Sharp for Everton.”
Few would contest the Scotsman’s skill level when he was playing, despite the fact that his membership on the previous board that led the team into this financial predicament has damaged his reputation among supporters.
An Everton team that feels many lifetimes old
In the exuberant 1980s, when Merseyside football was at its peak, Everton was frequently at the top of the hierarchy.
Actually, only one team—the Premier League—other than the Toffees and Liverpool won the first division title between 1981 and 1990.

That has drastically declined these days, and it seems as though this once-great institution’s culture has been corrupted. This old-school super squad has never felt further away, with Sean Dyche currently trying to pull his timid team away from relegation once more.
