Jordan Pickford shares new points deduction claim live on talkSPORT

Jordan Pickford has shared how he reacted to the points deduction and appeal process at Everton as he admitted it crept into the thoughts of the players.

The England international claimed that initially they had no choice but to move forward, but as the appeal’s processing period dragged on, they began to consider it more and more.

He continued by saying that he had just prepared for the worst, believing they would lose and that’s why he had continued to practise hard and perform well in order to battle for the points on the pitch.

Pickford said during a live talkSPORT broadcast on March 6 at 12:05, “It was just one of them where at the start we just cracked on.” The appeal was then scheduled to be submitted by the middle of February, but as a team, it kind of slipped in.

“As an individual, I kind of lived in fear—as if I were never going to receive any points back—but I learned to just keep going, practice hard, and give it my all on game days—because whatever happens, that’s what will happen.

“All we have to do now is keep moving forward and not give up. We can continue to look forward and avoid looking back now that we are on 25 points. You must learn from it, rise to the occasion, and be recognised as a cohesive unit.

How did the points deduction affect the Everton players?

Pickford’s response to the first ten-point deduction encapsulates his personality. Players have no control over it, so they should just go out and give it their all on the pitch so that, in the end, the deduction of points doesn’t matter.

The players will be concerned about the impact this has had on the Goodison Park locker room as well as the Premier League and the length of time they took to render a decision, given the news that it had started to weigh on their minds.

Jeff Stelling asked why the Premier League couldn’t simply inform the club of their decision, which had been made weeks prior to the announcement, and expressed his outrage at the length of time it took Everton to hear the outcome of their appeal.

The Premier League’s handling of this case, as well as the separate charges against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, has drawn a lot of criticism from the impacted clubs, all of which are near the bottom.
