Gary Lineker says former Everton striker was one of his best teammates ever

Gary Lineker believes former Everton striker was one of his best teammates ever.

Gary Lineker has been once again discussing about Everton, one of his old clubs, on his podcast.

The 63-year-old, who enjoyed a lone year at Goodison Park in which he famously blasted 40 goals across all competitions, would then immediately trade Merseyside for Barcelona.

However, despite the swiftness of his stay, it seems the Toffees made a huge influence on him, as he still supports them now alongside his favorite Leicester City.

Not only that, but his career was tremendously enhanced too, as he has sought to laud one of his former comrades.

Which former Everton player did Gary Lineker praise?

Featuring in a squad that possessed such a multiplicity of match-winners, it is predictable that Lineker would choose one of those players as one of his favourites to play with.

After all, there are so many to select from, with the deadly Kevin Sheedy sporting a vicious delivery alongside Trevor Stevens and Peter Reid.

However, it was a striker whom he considered one of his best-ever club mates, as he told The Rest is Football podcast: ‘I’d probably pick Alan Smith for Leicester or Graeme Sharp for Everton.’

Even if his position on the former board that brought the club into this financial state has reduced his popularity amongst fans, few can dispute with the quality of the Scotsman during his playing days.

However, this combination barely scraped the surface of what was a genuinely formidable squad, packed to the brim with confidence in their own skill and the talent to back it up.

A European Cup was welcomed to Goodison Park during this period too, only making today’s dreadful form even the tougher to accept.

Many supporters grew up around this period, where Everton’s motto, ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’, was actually the standard.

Nowadays, that has slid considerably, and it feels that the ethos of this once-great institution has gone awry. With Sean Dyche now striving to drag his confidence-shy club away from relegation once again, this super team of old has never felt farther away.
