Everton, West Ham among clubs keeping tabs on Middlesbrough defender

According to HITC, Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, and Brighton have all been keeping an eye on Middlesbrough star Rav van den Berg.

Van den Berg is a young defender who was only signed by Middlesbrough last summer from PEC Zwolle, but his standout performances have drawn attention. Everton and West Ham of the Premier League are two teams who have noticed his abilities.

The 19-year-old has played 31 times across all competitions this season, offering his services as a centre-back and right-back. He’s scored once in the process too, though his best efforts have only helped Boro to 14th in the Championship table in a challenging season for the club.

HITC reports that Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton have all taken the chance to watch over van den Berg in recent months.

Middlesbrough’s resolve could be tested in the summer transfer window as Premier League clubs weigh up offering him a quick move to the top-flight. He only moved to the Championship with Boro last summer but as a highly-rated talent, many have tipped him to play at a higher level sooner rather than later.

Drawing admiring glances

It’s not surprising that van den Berg is getting positive looks from the Premier League at just 19 years old, given his impressive early career. With his last club, PEC Zwolle, he had made a respectable impact in the Eredivisie. Now that he is adjusting so well to Championship games, the young player appears to be headed for the top of the game.

It remains to be seen if West Ham, Everton, or any other interested clubs will attempt to enhance their interest this summer. But given that Boro is expected to win the Championship once more, it’s possible that some of their best players are being lured away.

Van den Berg is under contract until 2027, so if Middlesbrough are to receive bids, they are in a strong negotiating position. You would fancy them to land a good fee in any sale of the Dutchman, and widescale interest in him could only increase the price tag.
