Neil Lennon is in no doubt where Celtic should ‘point the finger’ in Tynecastle VAR dispute

After Sunday’s latest VAR debacle at Tynecastle, Neil Lennon has made it clear to Celtic where the team should be placing the responsibility.

The video referee prompted Don Robertson to review two significant incidents that resulted in a Celtic red card and a penalty awarded against Brendan Rodgers’ team, ending any chance of his team taking back the league title.

Although John Beaton on VAR has received the majority of the vitriol directed on both rulings in the last four days, Lennon feels he knows exactly who is to blame for the pathetic officiating performance.

“I thought it when it was brought in, it’s a video-assisted referee so I agree with you, it’s a referee’s decision,” Lennon remarked in reference to PLZ Soccer.

“I am aware that Don Robertson made those decisions, but John Beaton was the one who brought him up in the argument yesterday.

“And I don’t understand how you could come to those decisions, so that’s where I would point the finger if it was on the Celtic panel, the Celtic squad, or the bench.”

I can somewhat see the former Celtics manager’s perspective. When it comes to making decisions in the game, Robertson has the last word.

Nonetheless, the seeds of skepticism had to have been sown the moment Beaton chirped Don Robertson‘s ear, telling him to look over the two incidents.

How frequently do referees who have been summoned over to the VAR monitor remain with their first ruling? Not many that I’ve watched on football games.

Therefore, even though the matchday referee is partially to blame, Beaton also needs to answer for his assertion that there were evident mistakes made when, in reality, none seemed to have been made.
