Souness raves about ‘top class’ Rangers signing who may be as good as £30m star.
The legendary Jack Butland of Rangers, who is tipped to be included in Gareth Southgate’s side for Euro 2024, has revealed his respect for the “top class” goalkeeper.
Jack Butland would be among Rangers’ best acquisitions since their return to the Scottish Premiership in 2016 if not at the top of the list. At the very least, he deserves a spot on the podium.
In Scotland, the seasoned goalie has the most clean sheets. Even with Saturday’s shocking home loss to Motherwell, Philippe Clement’s team might not be in such a strong position without his heroics in goal.
The fact that Rangers will be facing Benfica in Europe this week is also largely due to Butland’s remarkable performances in the Europa League group stages. Ibrox legend Souness has heaped praise on the 30-year-old for his achievements since he crossed Hadrian’s Wall.
Legend of the Rangers honors Jack Butland
“Jack Butland is an excellent goalie,” Souness claims to the Daily Mail. “And in my opinion, he ought to be considered for the Euros because I reside in England and watch more English games than Scottish ones.
“In my opinion, he is on par with, if not superior to, any England goalkeeper playing right now. Since Jordan Pickford of Everton is occupying the box seat, it is his shirt for the time being. However, Jack is an exceptional performer.
A few days prior, Barry Ferguson, a former skipper for Rangers, expressed his admiration for Butland in a similar manner, stating that Pickford, the current number one player in England, is not inferior to Butland.
In contrast, Souness goes a bit farther. He implies that Butland, who had a brief and unremarkable loan stint at Old Trafford the previous season, possesses all the necessary tools to be a regular at Manchester United.
Is a recall of England imminent?
“I was surprised that he’s not at Manchester United, Liverpool, or one of the really big clubs and playing for England, and some fool gave me some stick,” continues Souness, who pushed for Frank Lampard to be named manager prior to Clement’s arrival in the fall.
“Well, Rangers ought to be jubilant about having a goalkeeper of his caliber because, in my opinion, he ought to be considering an England roster spot. He is an excellent goalie.
Without an adequate goalie, no trophies are won. Being a goalie for Rangers, Celtic, or any other major football team requires a lot of focus because you are constantly on the attack and in control of the ball.
That’s what Jack did. That is what he does.
Not only has Clement, but also several of his rivals, lavished Butland with high praise on numerous occasions.Derek McInnes, the manager of Kilmarnock, gleefully praised his outstanding performance last week when Rangers overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Ayrshire team.
