‘My goal…’ – Everton player hints at transfer away after exit decision made

Everton decided to keep Joao Virginia at Goodison Park last summer, but he has since intimated that he may leave the team soon.

The goalie acknowledged that his ultimate ambition is to start as a major league team’s first-choice keeper, but he stated that for the time being, he is still focused on finishing the season.

He also acknowledged that, given Jordan Pickford’s position on the club, he would have to maximise his few opportunities, and that role is playing out as expected this season.

Virginia revealed to the Portuguese news source Bola Branca on March 5th, “This year they decided they wanted me to stay at the club.”

“I knew going in that I would be playing in the cups and waiting for something to happen because England’s best goalie was in the squad, but the season is going well, so it’s going exactly as anticipated.

I’ve already participated in four different competitions, so I’m becoming better. Moving forward, I want to play more and more in order to establish myself as a major club’s starting custodian. Right now, all that needs to be done is wait and see till the end of the season.

Joao Virginia might be on his way to the Everton exit door.

It makes sense that being a second-choice goalie would be upsetting, especially because Virginia revealed his desire to play for the Portuguese national team and eventually become the first choice elsewhere.

While Jordan Pickford, England’s top player, tends to start games more often than not and is preferred throughout the Carabao Cup run, he will not be able to accomplish that aim if he plays second fiddle to Pickford.

Off-field responsibilities will be the furthest thing from the goalie’s ambitions, but it can be presumed that he was crucial in assisting the striker in settling at Finch Farm after the goalkeeper wrote a note to Beto upon his arrival at Everton in the summer.

The choice to retain him as Pickford’s backup was made in the summer, and although Everton might find that appealing considering their financial circumstances, there’s a good chance Virginia will depart this summer.
