‘Driving me mad’… Sean Dyche makes ‘bizarre’ admission about Everton this season

‘Driving me mad’… Sean Dyche makes ‘bizarre’ statement about Everton this season.

Everton have undergone a highly frustrating campaign thus far, loaded with misfortune and heartbreak.

However, interestingly enough, it has not been the same concerns causing such emotions, but instead the answer to the problems that tormented them in the past.

An inability to produce and score chances was paired with a leakiness at the back, with the latter having been remedied with astonishing simplicity.

And if opportunity creation has soared, their profligacy has regrettably climbed too.

It is a trend that continues to limit their advancement as a team up the Premier League table, which is leaving Sean Dyche hamstrung.

Sean Dyche on Everton’s season

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 setback to West Ham United, in which they fell into familiar traps once again, the 52-year-old cut a frustrated figure.

So frequently over the season had he defended his players, arguing that they were making great steps in the correct manner while they wasted chance after chance.

However, he demonstrated was apparent irritation with their inability to reach the net despite the excellent chances offered, as he explained.

Dyche told Everton’s official website: ‘We had the chances today to kill the game off and dominate the game, which we did for significant sections. But you can’t just keep not taking that many chances.

‘As you can tell, I’m annoyed by that because there’s so much good in that performance, so many positive habits, but I can’t keep saying that if we’re not winning games or scoring goals.

‘That’s really weird for me to say that. But there has to be a truth in the performance and it’s driving me insane, because that’s another fantastic performance, it’s a Premier League performance that maybe should win and surely should not lose. And yet we do and that’s so, so frustrating.’

Relegation threatens despite improvements

When Anthony Gordon and Richarlison left in back-to-back seasons, it should have shocked few that their goal threat lessened.

However, in signing the likes of Arnaut Danjuma, Beto, Youssef Chermiti and Jack Harrison, it was considered that they had more than enough to share that weight.

However, whether it be via a lack of game time or just a lack of talent, these new faces, coupled with old characters who have already let the team down so frequently, are once again forcing the club into another relegation struggle.

Even with four points returned following their appeal, a five-point safety buffer is not a solid foundation to secure safety.

They absolutely need more, and Dyche needs to miraculously locate it or else be forced to helplessly watch these guys collapse to a third consecutive relegation struggle.
