Chris Wilder made claim about Everton just before Sheffield United got hammered last night

Chris Wilder made allegation about Everton right before Sheffield United got crushed last night.

Everton are firmly embroiled in a relegation battle again, despite having received success in their previous appeal.

Gaining four points back from their initial ten-point deduction, it saw them rocket five points clear of the bottom three, having toyed with that 18th-placed spot for weeks.

However, their form is abysmal, and it just has to turn around soon.

Fortunately, they are blessed with the presence of a variety of terrible outfits in the Premier League this season, with Chris Wilder the manager of one such club.

What Chris Wilder said about Everton

Speaking on live Monday Night Football, the Sheffield United boss, who rejoined his former club earlier this year, was candid in his judgment of this points deduction debacle.

As a real old-school manager, vociferous in his disapproval of VAR and severe in his standards for respect, it is no surprise that he is dismissive about the issue.

He would declare last night: ‘Your job as a professional footballer is to go right to the end. My goal as a manager is to make sure my team goes right until the end. So regardless of what happens we will go till the final whistle and the final day. We need to give our supporters something to shout about as we haven’t been good enough this season.

‘I have not really been thinking about Everton and Forest, especially an hour and a half before taking on a team of the stature and talent that Arsenal have.’

His side then went on to succumb to a humiliating 6-0 defeat, with five of those goals actually coming in the first half. The Blades have now shipped 21 goals in just their previous four home games across all competitions. And we thought the current form at Goodison Park was bad…

Everton cannot relax despite a victorious appeal

Although receiving four points back was hailed as a roaring success in the eyes of many, it does not leave Everton fully secure from the drop.

Luton Town have already demonstrated their knack for a strong run of form and a comeback, whereas Brentford and Nottingham Forest too have stolen their own great results at times this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Toffees are yet to win in 2024 in the Premier League, with a support that has really not seen their side taste triumph since December’s 2-0 league win against Burnley.

It has been a torrid run, and one which is due as much to the players’ profligacy as it is to Sean Dyche’s failure to alter games that are shouting out for a change in personnel.

Such intransigence has strangled them all season, but now especially he cannot afford to lapse into complacency. After all, things can change so rapidly, and all it takes is for their relegation opponents to go on a run for things to start looking dismal again.

Once they earn their first win, hopefully at Goodison Park, things will likely alter. But until then, confidence will remain at an all-time low, and a trip to Manchester United is unlikely to improve that issue given their recent record at Old Trafford.
