£8.3k-p/w Celtic man now also exploring transfer after Liel Abada exit

£8.3k-p/w Celtic man now also exploring transfer after Liel Abada exit.

Another of Brendan Rodgers’ squad options is set for an exit from Parkhead after Liel Abada, despite Celtic’s transfer window slamming shut at the start of last month.

Celtic agree fee to sell Liel Abada

Not every league closes its doors, and according to reports, Hoops attacker Abada is getting closer to leaving Glasgow permanently. The Israel international is reportedly close to joining Charlotte FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) after the Scottish powerhouses accepted a bid beyond £8 million, according to a recent report from Football Insider.

According to the site, the player’s unhappiness in Scotland stems from “major personal” concerns related to the violence in his native country, which have now resulted in an imminent relocation to the United States.

Compared to the £3 million they paid to sign him under Ange Postecoglou in the summer of 2021, it represents a significant profit. Thus, even though this is not how the club had envisioned his tenure at Parkhead to finish, they could still view the agreement as a success.

The above table illustrates how, in his first two seasons with the team and with 31 direct goal contributions in 37 starts overall, the 22-year-old dynamo was a reliable threat at the top end of the pitch under the Australian head coach.

Latest Celtic transfers News

Abada is not the only Celtics player who may leave the team before the end of the campaign; according to Football Insider, Yuki Kobayashi is ‘exploring’ a way out of the team.

According to the site, when a mooted move to Helsinki, Finland, collapsed last month, the central defender has been told he is free to go find a new team.

It says that Rodgers has told the Japanese defender that he may complete a move away from Glasgow since the Northern Irish manager has determined that he will not be keeping the January 2023 signing in his plans going forward.

Despite Kobayashi’s five-and-a-half-year contract, Football Insider reports that he hasn’t made enough of an impact for the manager to consider him a first-team option.

After his lackluster results in the Scottish Premiership in the second half of the previous season, it should not be shocking to learn about his possible departure from Celtic. Postecoglou gave him six starts in the top division last season, but he failed to demonstrate the necessary strength or quality to be a major contributor for the Hoops.

The £8.3k-per-week defender was defeated in an astounding 62% of ground duels and 64% of aerial fights during those six games, demonstrating how easily opposing forwards were able to outmuscle him.

Celtic lost 4-2 away to Hibernian at the end of the 2022–2023 season after suffering 3-0 losses to rival Rangers in his previous two league starts.

Since Rodgers hasn’t let the left-footed enforcer play a minute this season, he hasn’t been ready to take the chance that the enforcer’s poor defensive play may cost his team big losses.
