‘Wasteful throughout’: Alan Shearer critiques Nottingham Forest star for poor finishing

Alan Shearer has critiqued the performance of Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga following the defeat against Liverpool yesterday.

The pundit was speaking on Match of the Day.

So, what has Shearer said about the performance of Forest winger Elanga? Let’s take a closer look…

What Alan Shearer said about Forest whizz Anthony Elanga

Unfortunately, despite playing some excellent football yesterday, Forest lost the match in the ninth minute of extra time.

Darwin Nunez scored the most, and the goal came after referee Paul Tierney gave Liverpool the ball back when it should have gone to Forest, then allowed the visitors to continue after it appeared as though a corner had been cleared.

Nevertheless, Forest must assess its own performance; on a different day, the Reds may have defeated Liverpool, who are vying for the crown, and taken all three points.

Shearer talked on Forest’s performance from the previous evening, saying that he ought to have taken more use of his scoring opportunities.

“Forest had the chances to win that game; they created some really good chances,” he said on Match of the Day. Here, Elanga is one on one, but he never seems to be at ease. He was wasteful the entire time, and I fear you have to put away opportunities like that against Liverpool.

With five goals and seven assists this season, Elanga has had an incredible season at Forest, making it difficult to be too hard on him.

He will, however, reflect on two spectacular opportunities that Forest had here to secure a commanding three points.

The 21-year-old is expected to contribute significantly to Forest, and at £15 million, he appears to be a good transfer acquisition.

Shearer, who is experienced in finishing, felt that the Forest star should have put both opportunities away.

Forest must remain cohesive since the Reds are in severe need of points from somewhere, and Elanga is eager to forget about this match.
