Ohio State football losing key piece of offensive coaching staff to SEC program

Columbus, Ohio — Reportedly, an underappreciated member of Ohio State football’s offensive coaching staff will rejoin the SEC.

Todd Fitch will work with the quarterbacks at LSU as a senior offensive analyst, according to a Saturday report by Wilson Alexander of The Baton Rouge Advocate. For the previous three seasons at OSU, Fitch essentially played the same job.

Former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has mentioned Fitch by name a few times and given him credit for advancing his career.

As Louisiana Tech’s offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2019, Fitch reportedly collaborated with Joe Sloan, the offensive coordinator at LSU, according to Alexander.

Fitch is set to serve in the SEC for the third time. He spent five seasons as South Carolina’s quarterback, running back, and receiver coach from 1999 to 2003. He coordinated Vanderbilt’s offensive scheme as well.

In 2000, he served as both the quarterbacks coach and the acting head coach following Derek Mason’s dismissal.

OSU’s quarterback coaching staff will undergo nearly total turnover this offseason as a result of Fitch’s departure. Coach Ryan Day was able to appoint a new offensive coordinator when Corey Dennis was let go from his position as quarterbacks coach. Chip Kelly was hired by Day from his post as UCLA head coach after Bill O’Brien was hired and later departed to join Boston College.
