Neil Lennon names one part of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers outburst he had issue with

The former Hoops boss agreed with some, but not all, of the current boss’ remarks.

Neil Lennon agreed with the majority of Brendan Rodgers’ post-match remarks yesterday.

However, the former Celtic manager emphasized that one aspect was “not great”. The current incumbent expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating during the match against Hearts, claiming he was acting out of character by criticizing decisions that lost his team points.

The Hoops were awarded a disputed penalty early in the game, but Zander Clark stopped Adam Idah’s shot. Continuing the dispute, they went down a man when winger Yang was sent off via VAR after catching Alex Cochrane with a high kick.

John Beaton was the main VAR official, and he got involved again to direct on-field ref Don Robertson to take another look at a probable handball by Tomoki Iwata, which resulted in the Jambos being awarded a penalty, with Jorge Grant opening the scoring.

Rodgers was outraged by both rulings, and in his post-match interview, he blamed Beaton.Lennon questioned the decision to highlight one officer over Robertson, who also played an important role.

He told PLZ Soccer, “I’ve been there, and I know the emotion of a defeat, and how aggrieved Brendan would have felt after the game.”

“There is history between him and John Beaton. Consider an Ibrox derby in which he could have sent off two or three opposing players.

“Anyway, naming him isn’t ideal. That might land him in hot water. The remainder of his statements don’t bother me because the game was re-refereed yesterday. The ultimate truth, however, is that it all depends on Don Robertson’s assessment of what he saw on the VAR.

“So as much as John might have met his ire then the referee would have met his ire as well I would’ve thought.”

Rodgers may face an SFA disciplinary hearing for his criticism of the officials.

He commented after the match: “I never like to comment on officials; it’s not something I enjoy doing. I’ve stood here for many years, but it cost us today.

“The officiating from the field to John Beaton in VAR was quite awful. When I look at the first event, adding a still makes it appear risky. However, this is not the reality of the transfer. There is no force there. The ball has popped up, and it is a booking. It was incredibly disheartening to go down to ten men with that. But then we received the penalty, which was even worse.

“If you view the incident again, you will notice that Tomoki jumped. He’s on his way down and not looking. He is being bumped slightly, which causes his arm to extend. If that is a penalty, you will receive penalties in every game in the match. We got one last week at Motherwell, and the young lad Dan Casey raises his arm and it hits him.

“But that decision-making is simply startling, and I’m extremely dissatisfied. One for our players and two for our fans because we’re down a man, we receive a bad penalty against us, and you’re suddenly chasing the game.”
