Everton transfer news: The former Man City and Everton defender believes the club will struggle to keep hold of their young star.
According to Richard Dunne, Everton will have a very tough time holding onto youthful talent Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.
With 432 Premier League games under his belt, the former Manchester City and Everton defender is no stranger to playing center-half in England’s top division. He has been closely monitoring Branthwaite’s rapid rise this season.
Despite having no prior experience in England’s premier league, Branthwaite, 22, has shown to be one of the league’s greatest young players this season, settling into the first team like a duck to water. He was a major contributor to Everton’s fourth-best defence in the league last season, which was largely due to his outstanding combination with James Tarkowski, which he formed while on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
Speaking to betideas, Dunne said they may have a tough summer attempting to hang onto the centre back because he thinks Branthwaite is ready to play at a higher level.”Earlier in the season, I had been watching Jarrad whenever Everton was on TV and thought he was very good, but that game at the Etihad against Manchester City really caught my eye,” the man stated.
“He obviously clashed with Erling Haaland for the second goal, but most defenders will get hit like that by Haaland.” He had an absolutely fantastic game overall, which led me to believe that Everton will have a great chance of keeping him past the summer. I firmly believe he is capable of playing at the best level, and all of the major teams in England and Europe will be aware of his many qualities as a center-half.
“It is evident that he played a full season with PSV the previous year, which was a significant transfer for a young player, but he excelled with Everton this season. I believe he has a bright future and will play a significant role for Everton until the end of the season, after which it will be extremely difficult for them to hold onto him.”
Real Madrid was among the teams whose interest was reportedly expressed in January, although there were other articles regarding Man City and United. In order to at least make up for losing such a talent, Everton moved to sign their man to a new long-term contract that would last until 2027. Because he is young, English, tall, and left-footed, he should command a high price when that time comes.
